There is alliteration in this passage, to the repetition of "s" words: scowled, swirling, smoke.alliteration occurs when the same letter appears at the beginning of words placed closely together.

The answer is Paradox.Paradox is a statement that may seem contradictory but it can be true or at the very least it makes sense. A paradox may be easier to explain with examples. Example:Less is more. The statement tells us that what is less complicated is more often appreciated. The statement above uses two opposite words that contradict one another.
