Is a Chevrolet Impala an automatic engine or is a stick shift/ manual engine?

I’m considering purchasing a 2005 or 2006 Chevrolet Impala, and I prefer a vehicle with floor-mounted gears. I understand that automatic vehicles can have floor-mounted gear shifters, but I would like to know if the Impala offers this feature. Specifically, does the Impala have a floor-mounted gear shifter for automatic transmissions, or is this feature only available in manual versions?

2005-Present Impala’s only come with 4-speed automatic transmissions.

I don’t quite understand what you mean by “gears on the floor”.

By gears do you mean pedals? If you mean pedals, then a manual transmission will have an extra pedal (the clutch) on the floor. An automatic Impala, will only have the accelerator and gas pedal on the floor. It will also only go forward in Drive while the manual will go forward in gears 1-5 (possibly 6 too.)

The gears are changed by a gear shift that in an automatic car would usually only have park, drive, and reverse. A manual will have number of gears that you can change with the gear shift. The gears themselves are not on the inside of the passenger compartment.

Hope that helps.

The 2005 and newer Impala is only available with a 4-speed Automatic Tranmission, The “Base” model will have bench seats & shifter on the column, LS & SS will have the floor console mounted shifter.

Most have automatic transmissions. The engine is not what’s automatic or manual. You might find one with a manual transmission. Look for the 5 speed. The automatic is a 4 speed automatic. The manual is a 5 speed manual.

All new impalas are automatic. Some do have the shifter on the center console.

you wont find a manual in a newer impala so it has to be automatic

If you look for the ones advertised as SS or with bucket seats it should have the center shift console that you’re looking for.
