Is there an alternative to palm sugar.?

I have a recipe that calls for palm sugar but can’t find it at the grocery shop. Is there another sugar that’s close enough. I thought maybe raw sugar?

Do you have a South Asian grocery nearby? You can substitute jaggery (which is date palm sugar). You can also just use brown sugar. I’ve had success substituting brown sugar for jaggery.... Show More

Most of the recipes (eg curries) I’ve used call for very small amounts of palm sugar and dark brown sugar (muscovado) should be fine. Palm sugar has a slightly fruity or savoury taste, in the way that maple syrup does. You can buy palm sugar online, in the US at amazon.com, importfood.com, templeofthai.com.In the UK try wingyipstore.co.uk, waiyeehong.com, Sainsbury’s special selection, or (I believe) Budgens.... You could probably use brown sugar, but I’d use less than however much palm sugar you’re sposed to use. (Maybe half?)... Show More
