Ladies, if your man were to say to another woman “if I were single I would date you” would you be upset?

My married brother had a situation recently where the wife of his best friend was feeling down about her marriage while she was out to dinner with him and my sister-in-law. My sister-in-law got up to use the restroom at one point, leaving them alone. My brother decided to cheer the other woman up by saying, “If I were single, and you were single, I would totally date you.” Right after this, the woman did everything in her power to break up my brother’s marriage. She made up stories to my sister-in-law about seeing my brother with other women, said that he was calling her on a daily basis, etc. It really threw a wrench into my brother’s marriage. When my sister-in-law found out what he had said to this other woman, she freaked out and made him sleep on the couch for a month. When the other woman’s husband found out, he stopped speaking to both my brother and my sister-in-law. My brother is still clueless as to how one sentence could cause so much trouble. I tried explaining it to him by taking him to see “Obsessed” but he still doesn’t get it. I, personally, would be upset if my man said that to another woman, but I thought I would check with other ladies out there and seeing how they would react.

Yes, I would be upset, but I wouldn’t make him sleep on the couch for an entire month. If that’s honestly what he said, and you know for a fact that it wasn’t like “Sometimes I think about dating you” or “If I left my wife, would you want to be with me?” then I think he was just being careless and dumb. Not sneaky, not dishonest, not manipulative, just… dumb. It was certaintly insensitive, but it doesn’t sound like it’s intentional.Besides, for what it’s worth, after a month on the couch and fending off a woman who he is CLEARLY not interested in, a woman who caused so much trouble in his social circle… he probably wants nothing more than to be back in his happy wife’s arms.
