What does ‘Da ne’ mean in Japanese? I had the impression it meant ‘No’, but apparently I’m wrong…?

An example of it being used is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DCKAlAsHTI 0:13Also it's worth noting that I've just put up what it sounded like to me...I have no idea how it would be put in Romanji.Any help would be bloody awesome!

You've got it wrong. In the video, they are saying "Dame," not "Da ne." The two are completely different.Dame (駄目) means no, it's no good, you can't do that, etc. Dame somewhat like saying "no" in English.Da (だ) is an existence verb. It basically means "to be." Ne (ね) is a particle that indicates agreement, emphasis, etc. For example:Kore wa kanpeki da ne?これは完璧だね? This is perfect, isn't it?In this case, "ne" = "isn't it?"... Show More
