What does intermediate calculations mean?

ok so the answer to a math problem i just did is "440 people" and what it says i have to do with the answer is to round it to the nearest whole number, and dont round any intermediate calculations. what does this mean, and what would number 440 be rounded to the nearest whole number and the intermediate calculations thing????? PLEASE HELPP!!!!!!!

440 is the nearest whole number. Something that had a decimal would not be the nearest whole number. Intermediate calculations are all of the calculations you make up until your final answer. So if one of the steps was 3/4 = .75 and then you had to multiply it by 17, you would leave it as .75 and multiply that by 17 giving you 12.75. If 12.75 was what you got for the very last step then you would round that to 13 as it would be the nearest whole number.... Show More
