What does “It’s Hard to Be a Diamond in a Rhinestone World” mean?
I've come across a song by Blood on the Dance Floor with this title, and I really enjoy it. However, I'm curious—what exactly does the saying or quote "It’s Hard to Be a Diamond in a Rhinestone World" mean? What message or idea is it trying to convey?

Diamonds are beautiful and pure in themselves. Rhinestones are beautiful on the outside but impure and of course fake. the meaning is that its hard to be the beautiful you (or be yourself) in a world full of fakes and people who aren’t so beautiful on the inside or hide the beautiful true them on the inside instead of wearing it on their sleeves.
-btw, you have a good taste in music, blood on the dance floor is great.
Diamonds are rare and special. Rhinestones are plentiful and inexpensive (and artificially produced). To me, that saying is expressing a thought that it is tough being special when most others are of less quality. Another similar expression is:
It is hard to soar like an eagle when you are surrounded by turkeys.
In any case, it is a nice expression.
It’s hard to stand out and shine and be different when everyone else is trying to be the same.

It basically just means that it’s hard to be different, or be one thing when everyone else is being another
