In distribution a hub is a central interchange point. A national hub, presumably means they have just the one hub, which I doubt..

you take your parcel to the post office, they forward to Parcelforce who take it to their nearest hub (think huge sorting office) where parcels are sorted into areas or zones. the parcel gets moved from that hub to either another hub, nearer the delivery address, and then to the delivery depot for final delivery to the addressee

if the organisation operates a single hub then obviously the hub to hub trip is missed out
