What does Pesto Sauce taste like?
I know this might sound a bit unusual, but I’m on vacation, and I’ve noticed that many restaurants here serve dishes with Pesto Sauce. I’m curious—can you describe what it tastes like? It’s surprising, considering I’m Italian, but I’ve never actually tried Pesto Sauce before. Thanks!

it tastes like basil..with a little saltiness and a little crunch from the pignoli's! very nice!...i like the way every one is telling you whats in it..instead of what it tastes like...lol
I'm surprised that you've never tasted this delectable additive either, but such is life! I'm German and have only had Sauerkraut a couple of times, but have cooked it in masses! Pesto is like a oily basil with Parmesan cheese and a back taste of nuttiness, it's light in weight, but can add so much flavor even in a small amount. True Pesto is composed of Fresh Basil, Olive Oil, Garlic, Salt and Black Pepper, toasted Pine Nuts and Parmesan Cheese. Originated in Genoa, Italy, this mortar and pestle pounded sauce has taken on several tastes and twists in recent years, with additional seasonings and flavors added to it, but the original is still a favorite in many restaurants and homes! Try it............I think you'll really love it!

Pesto sauce is basically finely chopped fresh basil, pinenuts and olive oil...so it tastes like a very flavorful oil like you would dip bread into or use it on the pasta instead of a tomato based sauce, but thicker than an oil/garlic sauce. Try some on a piece of bread...it's quite good.

what does pesto taste like not what is on it or opinion about it. Taste of pesto sauce is complex to write in words, it would have to say it's like "tart sweet bitter nutty creamy taste". it gets the tart test from cheese mixed with basil leaves and garlic along with sweet and bitterness. bitter is not very bitter, its complex with sweetness. when every thing is combined with olive oil gives you a creamy texture. nutty flavor from nuts that you use.
We buy jars of pesto sauce in the spaghetti sauce isle at the store, and sometimes just make pesto pasta instead of spaghetti. My 3 and 4 year old love it. Just cook the pasta, and stir some of it in to your liking. It's really good!

Pesto is olive oil, basil, garlic and pine nuts blended together. It is really good in a cream sauce.

It depends on your taste. If any one makes it themselves try pistachios in place of pine nuts. its cheaper and tastes great.
It's hard to explain. It has a lot of flavor. It's just like herbs and oil. It' good, you should try it.
