It is a modern informal greeting when people come across somebody that they are fairly familiar with but have not seen for a while.

It is written "What do you know? Good?" and is equivalent to "How are things with you? all right?", "How is life treating you?".

People usually answer "OK. Thanks".

It s commonly used by sales people, it s an offensive question engineered to put someone on the spot and to assert the upper hand.

So when asked "hey, what do ya know?", the appropriate response is to say "I know that I m too busy for open ended questions".

I hope this helps.

That idiom is quite common in the south, and is often used by myself. Put simply, it means, "How's it goin'" or "What's happening".

I like wise_owl's answer but I would go one step further... this greeting is really simply a nicety and doesn't really elicit a specific response such as "ok, thanks".... there are other similar type greetings which actually could be used in response such as "wassup" or "what's happening".
