What does this Bo Burnham joke mean?

In Bo Burnham’s special “Words, Words, Words,” he presents a joke about statistics that seem bizarre yet are presented as true. One particular statistic he mentions is, “0.27% of all Jenga games are played on 9/11.” What does this joke mean? Why is it intended to be funny? I’m trying to understand—does this statistic have any basis in reality? If so, where did it originate, and how is the 0.27% calculated? Am I just missing something obvious?

.27 percent is the same as 1/365. there are 365 days in a year so 1/365 jenga games could potentially be played on 9/11 and that is pretty bad considering what happened on 9/11.

This is actually very clever. It’s easier if you think of it as 1/365. Assuming that every day has the same number of Jenga games played as every other day, then if you pick one randomly, there is a one in 365 chance (365 days in a year) that it will be on 9/11 .27% = 1/365.

Make sense?

Don’t know who Bo Burnham is, but i would assume he is refer to twin towers falling on 9/11, akin to jenga towers falling over

Jenga games. As in, the blocks falling over? And on 9/11, the twin towers fell. Kind of a joke that makes you cringe.

0.27% is equal to one day a year. So it’s technically true, assuming that an equal number of jenga games are played every day in a year.
