What is the chemical formula of the contents in a can of Drano (not liquid) and there are small pieces of Al.?

That formula of Drano is principally sodium hydroxide, NaOH. The reaction with the aluminum when water is added, produces hydrogen gas, like this:6 NaOH + 2 Al → 3 H2 + 2 Na3AlO3 But mostly there is a large excess of NaOH which presumably softens whatever is clogging your drain.... Show More
