An armature photographer (not to be confused with "amateur" photographer) is one who takes advantage of the so-called photographic armatures. The best known of these is the Rule of Thirds, whereby we are taught to place important elements at or near the points where lines dividing the image into thirds vertically and horizontally would intersect. The word "amateur" simply means that you don’t get paid. It is usually associated with someone with little or no experience but really has nothing to do with that. I know photographers that have been shooting for years that are amateurs.

By the same token, I also know a number of "pros" (people who get paid). Some of these photogs are horrible.

One who indulges in Photography just as a Hobby and makes no earning out of it.
