When someone says “base salary” is that before or after taxes?

I'm trying to complete my benefits enrollment at work, specifically regarding supplemental life insurance, and I need to determine my base salary. Could you clarify whether "base salary" refers to the amount before or after taxes? Thank you for your help!

Base salary is the gross before taxes, but after deducting any Commission, Incentive payments and the like which are not guaranteed on a weekly monthly or annual basis.

Calculate the tip on the amount before the tax and before any coupons or discounts. It makes no sense to give the server more money because the governor of the state is greedy or the city / county imposes additional tax. I do at times tip based on the full amount if I felt if the server deserved a bit more than the standard but not enough to bump it up to 20%. As for as the suggested tip, you cannot sue them because it is suggested. If you complain, I doubt if it would go anywhere. As for those that are saying that they standard tip is 20%, those answering are food servers, don’t give that much or more unless they deserve it. z

Base salary is GROSS pay before any bonus, commission, taxes, or other deductions. For example, if you make $20/hour and work 40 hours/week for 53 weeks, your ‘base salary is $41,600.

Base salary is what you are paid before anything is taken out, taxes, insurance, anything.
