Comparison between Beowulf and Grendel which is most accurate is In the poem, Grendel seems like a heartless monster, but in the novel, he is emotionally complex.Grendel is portrayed as the pure evil in the poem Beowulf. He is a pure evil by killing his loved ones and bring bad things and portrays him s someone who needs to be killed. In Grendel, a novel by John Gardner, the monster is shown emotionally complex by bringing good through his evil actions, for instance, his poetry and art. We figure out through the characteristics of Grendel that he has a problem with the place he is in and with the universe. He had constructed his own theory of life, everything is the product of own perception and that he exists alone until he encountered Beowulf. Grendel portray itself as an evil to make us understand that how we take things for granted like what is our purpose? who we are? whether we are on the right path? Hence, we tend to perform according to the society about what it feels to be good. Hence, we defy our own recognition and creates a monster within us.

Readers of Beowulf will likely view Grendel as a villain. Readers of Grendel, however, will likely view the character as more (D.) sympathetic. In Beowulf, Grendel is depicted as an evil monster and a beast without mercy. He is the one that kills Hrothgar’s men and eats them. However, in the novel Grendel written by John Gardner in 1971, the story is told from the point of view of Grendel, which also offers a different view of the character. In Grendel, the main character lives isolated and yearns for a true connection with someone. Moreover, although he wants to eat humans, he is also moved by them. In other words, Grendel is portrayed as having emotions and feelings and as being a sympathetic character.
SympatheticExplanation:John Gardner´s novel "Grendel" written in 1971 redescribes the story of Grendel, the antihero defeated by Beowolf in the the poem called "Beowolf" which is dated between 700 and 1000 d. C. In the contemporary novel, Gardner positions the reader from an existentialist point of view, in a few words, Grendel overcomes many hard situations which make him who he is, a villain, as many would call him.
