Remember, covalent compounds are compounds with bonds between two non-metals. Ionic bonds are those between a metal and a non-metal.To determine if an element is a metal or non-metal, simply look at the periodic table! So...a. Li is found on the left side while F is found on the right. A bond between a metal and a non-metal. This is an ionic bond.b. Mg is found on the left side while S is found on the right. A bond between a metal and a non-metal. This is an ionic bond. c. This is a tricky one. ammonia, or NH3, is covalent. You just have to remember this one. It has no net charge, unlike its brother NH4 (which has a 1+ charge put is still covalently bonded). Hydrogen has weird properties!d. Ca is found of the left side while Cl is found on the right. A bond between a metal and a non-metal. This is an ionic bond. Also consider the charges! Ca has a charge of 2+ but Cl only has a charge of 1-. This is why there are 2 Cloride atoms.

NH3 because covalent bond are bonds made of sharing between two compounds and ionic bonds are made up of electron transfer between two molecules and only metal and non metals can make ionic bonds since metal donates and non metal accepts electrons. Non metals are not able to do so because their valance shell has less electrons than 8. Now the general rule is all species wants to stay in its most stable form and components are stable when their last e shell has a complete octet. Therefore, in order to form octet non metals share e . And in the above example only nh3 compound has two non metals. Therefore, it is a covalent compound. Although I’m not at good at explaining just tried . Thank you hope it helps!

NH3  forms a  covalent compound  explanation a  covalent compound is a compound formed when two  or more  atoms combine by sharing electrons  pairs. Mostly covalent bond is formed   between two non metals. N (non metal )      combine  with H  ( non metal )   by sharing electrons  pairs. The  NH3 bond  is a   three single  covalent bond since  one valence of each  3 atoms  of hydrogen  is shared  with three electrons  of nitrogen.

is most likely to be a covalent compound.Further Explanation:The bond that is formed by the mutual sharing of electrons between the bonded atoms is called a covalent bond. It is also known as a molecular bond. Covalent compounds are those compounds which are formed by the electron sharing between two or more non-metals. Following are some of the properties of covalent compounds:1. These are brittle solids.  2. Low melting and boiling points.  3. Poor conductors of heat and electricity.  4. Low enthalpy of fusion.Boron trichloride , silicon dioxide   , and xenon hexafluoride  are some examples of covalent compounds. In , sodium is metal while chlorine is a non-metal. Sodium has the tendency to lose electrons by virtue of its metallic nature and chlorine has a very strong affinity for electrons due to its high electronegativity. During this process, sodium gets converted into its cation and an anion is formed by a chlorine atom. This results in the formation of an ionic bond between these two ions and therefore  is an ionic compound. In , potassium is metal while chlorine is a non-metal. Potassium has the tendency to lose electrons by virtue of its metallic nature and chlorine has a very strong affinity for electrons due to its high electronegativity. During this process, potassium gets converted into its cation and an anion is formed by a chlorine atom. This results in the formation of an ionic bond between these two ions and therefore   is an ionic compound. In  , copper is metal while fluorine is a non-metal. Copper has the tendency to lose electrons by virtue of its metallic nature and fluorine has a very strong affinity for electrons due to its high electronegativity. During this process, copper gets converted into its cation and an anion is formed by a fluorine atom. This results in the formation of an ionic bond between these two ions and therefore  is an ionic compound. In  , both carbon and fluorine are non-metals. Carbon has four valence electrons whereas fluorine has seven valence electrons. Both share two electrons with each other and a single covalent bond is formed between a carbon and a fluorine atom. So carbon forms four single bonds with four fluorine atoms in order to complete its octet and the octet of fluorine is also fulfilled. This bond is formed due to sharing of the electrons and therefore   is a covalent compound. Learn more:1. The part of the eye similar to the film camera:  2. Explanation:A covalent compound is defined as a compound formed by sharing of electrons. Some properties of covalent compounds are as follows.Covalent compounds have low boiling point and melting point. They are poor conductors of heat and electricity.Covalent compounds are brittle in nature. On the other hand, ionic compounds are good conductors of heat and electricity. They are malleable and ductile. Also, ionic compounds show high melting and boiling point. So out of the given options, properties shown by compound A are similar to the properties shown by a covalent compound. Thus, we can conclude that compound A is most likely a covalent compound.

NH3 is the most likely covalent compound  Further ExplanationOther Choices are:LiF- Ionic compound  MgS- ionic compound  CaCl2- ionic compound  Covalent compounds These are compounds that are composed of non-metal atoms when two non-metals reacts to form a covalent bond. This occurs as a result of sharing of electrons between non-metal atoms involved.Ionic compoundsIonic compounds are formed when a non-metal reacts with a non-metal to form an ionic bond. It occurs as a result of transfer of electrons where the metal atoms loses electrons and the non-metal atom gains electrons forming a cation and an anion respectively.Covalent bond  This is a type of bond that is formed between non-metal atoms. It is formed as a result of sharing electrons between non-metal atoms involved. When atoms involved contribute equal number of electrons to the bond formation, the type of bond is known as covalent bond. Like in this case, the atom with four outer most electrons may share its electrons with two oxygen atoms to form a compound with a double covalent bond. However, when the shared electrons come from one atom then the bond is known as dative covalent bond.Ionic bond  This is a type of bond that occurs between metal ions and non-metal ions. Ionic bond occurs as a result of transfer of electrons from one metal atom to another non-metal atom. After the transfer of electrons, metal atom loses electron to form a cation while the non-metal atom gains electrons to form an anion.Other types of chemical bonds include;Hydrogen bondsMetallic bondsDipole-dipole interactions, etc. Keywords: Covalent compound, covalent bondLearn more about:Covalent structures: Ionic bonding: Covalent bonding: Level: High school  Subject: Chemistry  Topic: structure and bonding  Sub-topic: Covalent structures
