a century means 100, we are in 21st century, it means 2100 but we are in 2010?

I don’t get it. How does it work? if i say 19th century it’s 1900 but for 21st why its different?

I’ll try to explain, it’s really confusing at first glance, but makes sense eventually. The 1st century was from the year 0 through the year 99. Once you reach 100 you’re actually starting the 2nd century because the 2nd set of 100 year periods is starting. So the 19th century is from 1800 through 1899. Think of it this way, the years 0-99 was the 1st century. Therefore, years 100-199 was the 2nd century. It continues on–years 1500 thru 1599 was the 16th century…and the years 2000 thru 2099 will be the 21st century. Years 2100 thru 2199 will be the 22nd century, and so on.

Because that’s not how you count the centuries. For each century, you take the first two numbers of a year, so let’s say now we’re in 2010, so take 20 and add 1 so you get 21st century.
