The Abuse Coordinator in a nursing home is usually the administrator. While every employee is a Mandated Reporter,it falls to the abuse coordinator to oversee the abuse prevention program and ensure that all suspected abuse is reported to the state and ombudsman’s office. They also make sure that all staff is educated on what constitutes abuse. There are different types of abuse that must be investigated and reported as required.Phsical, Emotional, Financial, Verbal, Sexual, and Neglect, among others Even those small bruises that everybody gets but nobody knows how they got, are investigated. If abuse is substantiated the Attorney General’s office may press charges.
