Who’s Who In Academia?

Has anyone else received this email? It reads as follows:

"Good morning. We're writing to let you know that you received an Honorable Mention in yesterday's article titled 'Who's Who in Academia' by Joseph Bozanek. The article will remain available at http://www.newsdigest.co/news/academia for the next few hours and is free to view or download. Wishing you the best of continued success, Lisa Davis, Editor News Digest International."

I just received this today, but when I visited the link, it was not available. To me, it seems like spam, but you never know. I would like to read the article they mentioned and see if I was actually featured. So my questions are: Have you received this email? If so, did anything come of it? Also, do you have a way for me to read this article? Thank you.

That sounds like spam to me.

I would check the link and see if it actually goes to where it says, rather than linking to another site which then redirects you there. Spammers use that technique to find out if your e-mail address is valid, and if it is, sell it to affiliate marketers.

I agree with the other respondents thus far. You want to deregulate the market and regulate education? That is a breakdown in logical thought that defies description and implies that either you have not benefitted from the education system adequately or simply did not go beyond a certain point -well before the college years you are obviously intent on criticizing. Simply judging from your grammar and sentence construction the implications of your failed logic are quite strongly reinforced. Academia does not need to be regulated or reformed. If people feel that they are not getting a good value for their educational dollar, they won't go to the schools whose academic rigors you are questioning; they will side with you and go to the schools you approve of. At this particular time, you appear to be in a distinct minority.

Over the years I have received a number of these emails. Never been able to see the "article ". I do teach but only part time, so unlikely to be honorably mentioned anywhere -maybe campus elevator after last class. Most of us appreciate being "honored" for what we do, but a post that only appears for a few hours is mostly likely a spam attempt.

However I offer all of you thanks for what ever you do ,and the good work you do in helping others. Peace.

I also received that email and was unable to access the link sounds "fishy". I think it is a way to get people to subscribe they know that young professionals in the world of academia will be overly excited to see their name in print and therefore pay for membership in order to view. I think it might be a scam

I got the same email on Feb 15th. It said on the website that they change articles on an hourly basis, so its either spam or someone actually thinks we deserve mention. I don't know about you but I don't think I quite deserve "Honorable Mention;" even if I did, you'd think they'd at least address me by name.

I just had the same email, informing me of my "Honorable Mention," and I had the same questions as you. When I attempted to find the article online (since I couldn't find it on the News Digest site either), that's when I found your post. It appears to me that it's bogus.
