A nearsighted woman has a far point of 314 cm. What type of lens—converging or diverging—should be prescribed to help her see distant objects more clearly? Additionally, what should be the power of the lens?

To correct nearsightedness the object distance is infinity and the image is at -314cm

So from 1/f = 1/do + 1/di we have f = di = -314cm which is -3.14m

So the power is 1/-3.14 = -0.318 diopter

and the lens is diverging
