Why was the state of Israel created?

It seems quite strange that we just decided to split up a country and declare it the Jews’. Maybe I’m missing something but there doesn’t seem to be much information about the creation of Israel.

A couple of reasons. As 1947 the year of Israel’s creation, there was still a huge amount of world guilt as to the holocaust. So there was a huge united nations lobby for the creation of a Jewish homeland.The area had a significant Jewish population. The Jewish population protested, and rebelled against the British Palestinian police force. It seemed to be the easiest solution to the problem setting up a separate Jewish, and Palestinian state. Unfortunately the hope that they could co-exist peacefully was shattered right away with the first Arab-Israeli war. Since then pretty much any hope of two nations living side by side ended....
