https //www.google.com/ gws_rd=ssl what does this mean? How to remove?

Recently when I open up the Chrome browser the URL is showing "https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl%22 which has never happened before. If I type google.co.uk into another browser it opens in the exact same way with the extra extension. I've had a search and some say to add "ncr" to the end of the backslash but this doesn't have any effect. Is there anything else I can do to have the extension removed? I know it's not a virus or malware but it's annoying to see it differently now.

You probably have your home page set to http://www.google.co.uk/ or you aren't specifying the protocol (http vs https) at all. Google has set up a redirection, so that if you navigate to the insecure (http) url, it automatically redirects to the secure (https) one and adds that url parameter for their own metrics (so they know how many times the redirection has occurred). If you update your browser homepage to https://www.google.co.uk,/ you won't see the extra url parameter anymore.

?gws_rd=ssl, this is just the security certificate from google and there is nothing you can do, every day more and more sites will be https:// and will have some ssl in the url because this has to do with the way they are encrypting our information so hackers cannot see what we type while they sniff our connections.

I have to laugh at all the foreigners lying about what it really is. This is not good or right but watch them ALL LIE . I ve been trying to get rid of this for a long time. They wont tell you how to get rid of it because it does not serve their interest to do so.
