most of the people answering din’t get the question! I am a Nepalse by nationality- bt my ethnicity is Indian. Indian is not only a nationality- it is also an ethnicity. Basically in the US, mongoians are called asians- like chinese, Japs , korean or Thai. And Indian refer to the Aryans- even people in Arab are of Indian ethnicity. So, in Nepal the the tribes like NEWAR- 50-50, CONFUSES FOREIGNERS if they can be called indians or asians. Bascically there are both people in Nepal. The brahmins, CHettris and Thakuris along with the Madhesi people from terai are INDIAN in ethnicity. The RAIS, GURUNGS, SHERPAS, LIMBUS ARE ASIANS. AND NEWARS- MOST OF THEM CAN BE REFFERED ASIANS- MOS T OF THE NEWARS ARE MONGOLIANS i.e ASIANS

Nepalese are Nepalese. Not Indian or anything else. If you want to know the race of people in Nepal, many people do come from Aryan race in the southern part of the country and many people in the nothern part are from Asian race. But now, due to marriages and all between different races, they cannot be classified into just one of the race anymore.But, Nepalese are not Indians, we have a separate identity.

People from India are called Indian an people from Nepal are called Nepali. So although there are a big part of the people in Nepal have roots in India, you would call them Nepali. The word asian applies to all people from countries in Asia, so that would be fine as well but is more generic. Don’t forget there are a lot of people with roots from China/Tibet in Nepal as well, so calling them Indian would be wrong. In the south of Nepal people are more likely to have indian roots, and in the north (himalaya’s) they are more likely to have chinese roots.
