Can you freeze green tomatoes for frying later?

I live in the South, and fried green tomatoes are a favorite of mine during the summer. I would like to know if it’s possible to freeze green tomatoes for later frying, and if so, what is the best method to do this? Thank you!

Wash, slice, and go ahead and bread them like you were cooking them now. Freeze them in a single layer. When frozen, pack into a sturdy box for the freezer. Later, fry without thawing…just at a lower temp. and a little longer !

i’m not sure what your fried tomatoes are like but if they are rather mushy anyways you could probably freeze them.

Frozen vegetables end up soft and mushy. You can usually just put them in a freezer bag and throw them in the freezer. Not very sophisticated but works for some things.

I would think not as fried green tomatoes are made from fresh, firm green tomatoes and freezing would make them mushy. Maybe if professionals freeze dried them it might be possible, but otherwise, I doubt it.

Pack the slices into containers with freezer wrap between the slices. Leave 1/2-inch headspace. Seal and freeze.

I assume so, because Wal Mart carries frozen green tomatoes. That’s one thing I have learned to love in the south!

yes you can freeze them. rinse them and dry them well. slice them as you would if you were going to fry them and then place them in single layer in a ziploc bag. Continue until you’ve frozen as much as you are going to use. You can later go back and consolidate the slices into the bags.

Thank you so much. I am going to try by freezing and lay them separately in a rectangular container. This should work just fine.
