From .PSD to vector (.ai or .eps)?

Question

I have designed a logo for someone else in Photoshop, and now he wants it in vector format (.ai or .eps), but I do not know how to convert it. I have both Photoshop and Illustrator CS3. I have tried to open the .png file from Photoshop in Illustrator, and to live trace, but the results are no good at all.

Unfortunately the only way to get a vector is to re-do it in Illustrator.Turn your file into a JPEG, get it into Illustrator and trace it out.… usually it’s better to do ALL logos in Illustrator.. because vector files don’t lose their quality. So clients can use the logo on a business card or on a billboard and it will look the same.. crisp! 🙂

*******.anyone at this stage of the game who cannot deal with a PSD file -saved in PDf format should not be hired to do you project. to say only illustrator is for building logos is not someone who has experience. Find a reputable signe maker, printer who you can work with and suppy the entire peice of work.Pansies that cannot handle layered PSD files, PDF files should not be in business. Period.

You trace it, in Illustrator, with your mouse, using layers to help you. If you don’t own Illustrator you might look at Inkscape. I’m impressed with the live trace in Inkscape. But, it boils down to re-creating the artwork.

You can trace it in Photoshop using the pen tool, and save as .eps.
