How do you say the fruit "orange" in Tagalog? Additionally, are there any interesting cultural associations or uses of the word in Filipino society?

There are many ways of saying the fruit orange in Tagalog:

1. Kahel (in reference to the orange color shade, which is also kahel in Tagalog);

2. Narangha (from the Spanish word “naranja” – nevertheless rarely used except among older generations);

3. Dalandan (usually used to denote a Philippine variety or Orange).

:: Actually, there is NO need to know the Tagalog equivalent of the word orange, as market vendors and restaurant waiters will understand the English word. It can be pronounced as something like “Oreynds” though.

if you notice in tagalog book if word becomes too deep for filipino writer, the filipino writer just add “i-” before word and it instantly become part of the tagalog vocabulary (Ex: i-snow). So you just use i-orange and i’m sure filipinos will understand

You can call it “dalandan” or “kahel”, “dalanghita,” “sintunis” or “sintones”… just call it “orange”…
