How does Yoohoo milk stay good for so long without being refrigerated?

I just bought a package of yoohoo milk the other day that had an expiration date a year from now. Treating it like any other processed food/ drink i didn't think twice about it, until I realized it was milk! I mean, fresh milk usually just lasts two weeks max, and even the chocolate milks they have in that section last a similar amount of time.Not only does yoohoo last a full *year*, but it doesn't need to be refrigerated until opened. Is it vacuum sealed or something? Does that make a difference?Thanks!

"1) Yoo-hoo doesn't have an expiration date. It's pasteurized in the can or bottle, and, so long as the container remains sealed, it won't go bad. Ingredients may separate a tad – hence the chocolatey sludge at the bottom of any vintage of bottle, but any true-blue 'Hoo-ligan knows you've just got to shake it up.4) Yoo-hoo is actually NOT chocolate milk (though it does contain a small amount of non-fat dry milk), hence the now-retired tagline, "If only milk tasted this good."sorry for the corniness, i took this from the yoohoo facebook page.

Its not preservatives - anything that would make milk last that long wouldn't be allowed anywhere near food. It is UHT milk or longlife milk. The milk is homogenised and then heated to a very high temperature inside a pressurised system and that kills all living organisms in the milk. This UHT milk is sterile

It is not milk, right? Just a Chocolate flavored drink? If it is milk, then it is like the milks that come in non Chocolate that are in little boxed like juice boxes. It is basically "canned" milk. Canning sterilizes the product and keeps the air (which is full of bacterias) from coming into contact with it, which then makes it free from bacterial growth/spoilage.
