HOW HARD IS NURSING SCHOOL?

I have been homeschooled and am curious about nursing school. Is nursing school hard? Can you go to community college to become a nurse? I have to attend community college, and I struggle with math. How much math do you actually need to know? I have a photographic memory and can remember information well, so if the focus is mostly on learning about the body and diseases, I think I could handle that. Still, I'm concerned about my math skills. I've always wanted to be a nurse, but how challenging is it overall? What subjects do you study in nursing school? Can I really pursue this path through community college? What will I learn, and how much math is involved? Is there hope for someone like me?

I am 19. I will be finishing my first semester in nursing school this week. In high school I did really good. Before entering nursing school I had heard it was hard but I didn't think it would be too hard. It is hard. C 's really are the new A's. Some days I wonder what I was thinking. Other days I am amazed at what I can do. If you aren't interested in working you're butt off it isn't for you but if you are it is so worth it. To me the school is harder than clinical. The tests are completely different from anything I'm used to. But if you want to be a nurse it is an awesome job. I can't wait to be one!

In order to get into nursing you have to do pre requisites which include a lot of science. You can take pre requisites and general ed classes at a community college. The science cources typically include Anatomy and physiology, chemistry (inorganic, organic is iffy some schools want it and others don't) And microbiology. With a handful of general ed classes. After you finish your pre requisites then you need to apply to a nursing program at a state college as well as apply to the college and be accepted to both. (Some schools have waiting lists and standards are high to get in. 3.5 gpa minimum) you also take a teas test to get in which is an entry nursing program exam. You need a 75 percent or higher to be considered For admission. There is not much math in nursing. It's mostly algebra. The major is definitely more science orientated. The only math class required to get in is statistics. Also if you're bilingual, come from a poor family, or have health related work experience you can get points when you apply for the program. I'm not in the nursing program yet but people say it is very intense. Getting in the program as i've learned is also incredibly stressful. I'm taking microbiology now and after taking chemistry and anatomy i can say nursing is a challenging major already. In nursing it is more specific to health. you learn about the human body in all aspects, more than you can imagine. It is not easy and it takes a lot of memorizarion and reading. Nursing school is full time. At the end of the nursing program you take the nclex exam and you have to pass to get your license. I'm talking about the bsn rn btw which is the highest nurse you could be. If it sounds too hard look into being an lvn. Overall nursing is very challenging and there is a lot of competition for it. But if you're a compassionate person who doesn't mind getting your hands dirty to help others go for it. I am personally bad at math and science but with hard work i was able to pull off bs in my science classes and currently have an A in microbiology. I am willing to do whatever it takes to be an RN even if it means applying to the program more than once. Believe in yourself and you will succeed. That's what happened to me.
