I need help converting a metric drill bit to a standard one!!!?

I need assistance converting a metric drill bit size to a standard one. The plans specify that I need to drill a 3.5mm hole, but I only have standard drill bits available. Could someone please help me determine the equivalent size in standard measurements? Thank you!

The inch equivalent of 3.5mm is 0.13779 (3.5/25.4), so 1/8 is smaller, 9/64 is bigger, #29 is smaller, #28 is bigger (but here we are talking about 2 or 3 thousands of an inch). There is a great chart at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill_and_tap_size_ch… , it shows all types of designations in order.

It comes out between a #28 and #29 bit. If all you have are fractional bits then it is a couple thousandths smaller than a 9/64″

At the hardware store they will sell a small metal or plastic template with holes in it. Get one with Standard and metric equivalents.

You can simply take the metric number (3.5 mm) and divide it by 25.4 to get the decimal equivalent of .138″. Conversely, just multiply any decimal number times 25.4 to get the metric equivalent.

3.5 mm = .138″ About the only size fraction drill that comes close is 1/8″ which of course is .125″. Good Luck

And if you can find one a 9/16 is .141″

1 Inch is 25.4 mm, so you want about 1/4 inch or 3/8
