While there are all sorts of songs that follow that description, one song totally captured how I felt.

Nine Inch Nails wrote a song that is somewhat hard to find. It’s called "All That Could Have Been". The song was released on a rare collector’s edition of the album of the same name. Now and then it shows up on YouTube. Give it a shot.

edit: Kudos to "sheesh". 3 libras is also an awesome song. That song came out right after I was dumped by someone who really didn’t know me yet. That song struck so true.
