Suppose you found a fossil of a clamshell. what can you conclude about the once living organism and how it became a fossil?

If you were to discover a fossil of a clamshell, what conclusions could you draw about the organism that once lived within it, and what processes might have contributed to its fossilization?

Identifying the fossil is the first step. We have already identified this fossil as a clamshell. We know clam are from the sea, but if you didn't, you could conclude this from knowing where you found the fossil (likely near the beach). Discovering where it is can also lead you to a conclusion on it's arrival as a fossil, perhaps washed up on shore or buried by an animal.

check explanationExplanation:Fossils can be simply be defined as the remains of a prehistoric plant or animal embedded in rock. IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT FOSSILS: from the definition we can deduce three things; (1). Fossils are remnants of extinct organisms.(2). Fossils are found in rocks, and fossils found in rock at different era are different from each other. It is worthy of note to know that different species of animals and plants found as fossils change through time. (3). Fossils are remnants of once-living organisms. MY CONCLUSION: if I find a fossil of a clamshell, I will conclude that the organism once lived and it became a fossil after it died. After it death, it became a sediment.

The organism was once a clam and most likely became a fossil after being buried by silt in its watery environment after death. Might need more clarification on what exact answer you need.

You already know what type of fossil it is. It is a sea animal which means you already know the general location of the animal which would of been the beach. It is possible to determine how it became a fossil since you can assume that it was either washed up on shore or buried by another animal. Clams generally live for about 400 years so in order for it to be a fossil it would have had to of been dead a long time ago which would be more than 400 years. It could of been around in the Silurian period or the Devonian period since that is when clams practically ruled the oceans. 252 million years ago is when clam like organisms were dominant so you have the general time it could of been around.
