Thomas Jefferson was a Democrat. The Democratic party started as the Democratic Republicans. During the political conflict of the 1830s the Democratic Republicans broke into several smaller groups the largest, and only surviving group, called itself the Democratic Party.Thomas Jefferson ran against the Federalist party candidate and became President.Thomas Jefferson is an interesting person.
