I found myself imagining slapping her in the back of the neck as hard as I could because I don’t understand why a Black American man would get on a plane and fly all the way to Brazil just to date a white woman. On second thought, though, how does that even make racial or financial sense? In Brazil, the population is roughly 50% brown, with many living in poverty, while the other 50% is predominantly white and middle-class. So, the idea of being wealthy in America, flying to Brazil to become a mega millionaire, and then dating a white Brazilian woman from the upper class seems fundamentally flawed. It's as if, regardless of their intentions, white people operate under a default mindset that perpetuates racial biases.

If what she meant was that people don’t use color to determine who they date, she may be right, although it hasn’t been very long since Brazil had segregated beaches. But it’s clearly not true that ALL black men date only white women or vice versa. I have been in Brazil, and I know quite a few people from there.
