What are the different ways to say “I love you” in Japanese and when do you use them?

I always hear other stuff when I watch different anime, and others when I search for them on the Internet. The only words I know are “aishiteru” and “daisuki”? If I’m not mistaken.

literally ”I love you” is “Aishitemasu”.but you should know this. even many Japanese don’t know this. believe it or not the idea of “I love you” is imported from the west during the Meiji era(1868-1912).I’m Japanese. and it can be said that we have much fewer opportunities to say it. as for me I’ve never said it to anyone in my family. I think this is true for many of us. when we make a declaration of love, we use “suki” more often. suki desu. suki dayo. suki da. suki yo. maybe where you hear “aishieru” most often is music lyrics. I believe it’s not a day to day word.... Show More
