Itty Bitty 1 yr. old?
My 16-month-old daughter weighs only 20 pounds and is very short for her age. She has a healthy appetite, eats well, and drinks plenty of fluids. We avoid giving her junk food and focus solely on nutritious meals. Since I am 4’11” and weigh 97 pounds, I wonder if her low weight and short stature could simply be due to genetics. When I was younger, I looked like a 3-year-old at the age of 5, and my parents went through a tough time because of it (my mom has a similar build to mine).
People often comment that my daughter doesn’t look like a typical 16-month-old and say she’s too small for her age. On the other hand, my son is the complete opposite—he looks like a 12-year-old even though he’s only 8. Doctors used to criticize me, saying my son was too large (even though he wasn’t overweight), but his father and uncle are both very tall and have a large build. It seems like no one is ever satisfied—children are either “too big” or “too small.”
Are there any parents here who have had children who were very tiny for their age? If so, did they catch up as they got older, or did they remain small?
