my dog has rotten teeth what can I do besides the vet?
I’m 14 years old, and my Miniature Pinscher mix has rotten teeth. I didn’t realize it until recently when she started eating differently, like it was painful for her. Her teeth aren’t the worst, but they are in bad shape. I want to do something to help quickly before they get worse.
I understand that rotten teeth can lead to infections that spread throughout the body and could be life-threatening for my dog. That’s why I’m asking if there’s anything I can do to help her teeth besides taking her to the vet, at least for now, before her condition gets too severe. I know the vet is the best option, and my mom said she will call the vet in the morning. However, we don’t have much money, and where I live (Shelton, Washington), it costs $50–60 just for a vet consultation. Last year, it even cost $50 to put down my old Mini Rex rabbit.
Is there anything I can do at home to help her teeth improve or at least prevent them from getting worse? I was considering using doggy toothpaste, but I’m not sure how much it would help. Thank you! 😊

dental care, such as toothpaste etc is used to PREVENT decay, which in your dog’s case is a little too late
dental care for a dog is not cheap….and I dont think there is anything else you can do at home

There is nothing you can do now that the teeth have already rotten. Brushing your dog teeth or massaging its gums as a almost daily grooming process throughout your dogs life can help prevent it, but that’s all.
You do have to take your dog to the vet, to make sure their is not infection and so they can help him in general. It is painful to eat with rotten teeth, you know. If you do care for the teeth very carefully, and everyday, you might not have to take your dog to the vet over and over. You should massage her gums and feed her very soft food and treats. (The vet should tell you what to do). It is very expensive but think, #1 He is your beloved doggy! #2 It’s not like you take him to the vet everyday, it’s just an occasion.
I hope this helps and I hope your adorable doggy gets better!!!!!!
VET IMMIDATLEY. Rotten teeth cause a lot of pain for the dog and may stop it eating and it can loose a dangerous amount of weight, you should really have been have been brushing your dogs teeth or giving it denta sticks to prevent the teeth and gum infections.
Sure doggy toothpaste, those things that come on commercials all the time that dogs can eat and chew on and it cleans their teeth. There’s this doggy tooth spray(it’s like toothpaste but a spray). There are lots of things that can help.
Only idiots feed their dog’s kibble- it destroys their teeth and is comprised of mediocre ingredients, at best. Raw fed diets are radically healthier.
brushing her teeth regularly will help remove the plaque and tartar and keep it from buidling up
for the teeth that are already damaged or infected, they need vet care.
