Navy jobs that do not require normal color vision?

I scored a 92 on the ASVAB and successfully passed my MEPS physical. However, the MEPS doctors informed me that I have a slight red/green color deficiency, which I had never been aware of before. Given this, does anyone have a comprehensive list of Navy jobs that do not require normal color vision? Initially, I was recruited for the Coast Guard, but they only offer a limited number of positions for individuals with color deficiencies (just four). Any guidance or insights would be greatly appreciated!

A lot of jobs are closed to you, but you still have some options: crypto jobs, Seabee, cook, corpsman and logistics specialist are open to people with color vision deficiencies. There are probably some others, but that's what I know off the top of my head. I couldn't find a list for you, sorry.

Cryptologic jobs are good jobs with fast advancement. My husband (also color blind) started out as a CTR (cryptologic technician - collection), then cross rated to CTI (cyptologic technician - interpretive). He made first class in just under 5 years. As a CTR, he was stationed in Hawaii and got to travel all over the place: Australia, Japan, Singapore, Russia, the Middle East. As a CTI, he spent two years in Monterey learning Arabic and now we're stationed stateside. He loves both.

Good luck... and talk to your recruiter! S/he should be able to tell you what jobs are possibilities.

I feel your pain. I had my choice of ratings until I failed the FALANT test in the late seventies. In the end, I choose to be a Data Processing Technician (DP). The DP rating was merged with Radioman and Cryptologic - Communications (CTO) ratings to form the Information Technician (IT) rating. Sadly, the combined rating requires one to have normal color vision.

With that said, if I were you, I would choose one of the branches of the CT rating that does not require one to have perfect color vision (CTN seems to be the hot ticket now). I spent the second half of my enlistment with the old Naval Security Group at Fort Meade. Being members of the Central Security Service, which in turn is the uniformed arm of the National Security Agency, CTs have access to some of the newest technology on the planet. I am grateful for the opportunity that was given to work with this community.

It's the same with the Navy. All the good jobs are unavailable to you. You'll be stuck with an administrative job, or worse. Back when I enlisted in the 70's the color blind guys with very high ASVAB scores were all funneled into the AG rate to become weather forecasters. In the late 80's they made normal color vision a requirement for that rate too so it's now unavailable to you.
