What does ‘Castigo corpus meum’ mean?
I am currently reading The Da Vinci Code and I came across the phrase "Castigo corpus meum." Could someone please explain its meaning and significance within the context of the book? Thank you!

A self-flagellation practice, included in The Da Vinci Code (14) as connected with Opus Dei, based in part on 1 Corinthians 9:27, from the Latin (Vulgate) translation: "I discipline my body and bring it into subjection" (NKJV); "I beat my body and make it my slave" (NIV).
Castigo corpus meum To reprove one’s own body. In the New Testament, Paul writes castigo corpus meum in this sentence: “No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.” (1COR 9:27) In this instance, castigo corpus meum translates to “I beat my body.”
Literally "I punish my body." Some Christian sects think it's a good idea based on a biblical passage - 1 Corinthians 9:27 - that says "I beat my body and make it my slave," or something similar, depending on your favorite English translation of the Bible.
