When Jimmy Page was assembling the group, Keith Moon (drummer from The Who) got word of his plans and predicted the group would go down “like a lead balloon” (this is a common English expression). Bassist and keyboardist John Entwistle thought it would be “more like a lead zeppelin.” Page took the phrase and manager Peter Grant changed the spelling to “led” in order to avoid mispronunciation.P.S. a “zeppelin” is a blimp... https://shorturl.im/HmJCMThe guys talking about Keith Moon are close, but not right. In the late 60’s, Keith Moon and John Entwistle, who after being cast in the shadows of Daltrey and Townshend, often joked about leaving the Who to start their own band. Keith Moon said “that would go over like a lead zeppelin.” And that became the “band’s” name. A short while later, Jimmy Page, a good friend of the Who, heard that name from Keith Moon and Led Zeppelin was born.... Show More

When the Who’s drummer Kieth Moon first heard the band he told them they would go over like a lead zeppelin or lead balloon and they liked it.Oh look I can copy and paste too 😛The band completed the Scandinavian tour as The New Yardbirds, playing together for the first time in front of a live audience at Gladsaxe Teen Clubs in Gladsaxe, Denmark on 7 September 1968.[30][31] However, it was clear to the band that performing under the old Yardbirds tag was akin to working under false pretences, and upon returning from Scandinavia they decided to change their name.[32] One account of the band’s naming, which has become almost legendary, has it that Keith Moon and John Entwistle, drummer and bassist for The Who, respectively, suggested that a possible supergroup containing themselves, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck would go over like a lead zeppelin, a term Entwistle used to describe a bad gig.[33] The group deliberately dropped the ‘a’ in Lead at the suggestion of their manager, Peter Grant, to prevent “thick Americans”[21] from pronouncing it “leed”.[34]... Due to the outstanding success of the Zeppelin design, the term zeppelin in casual use came to refer to all rigid airships.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeppelin... Show More
Keith moon said the band would not last. They would go down “like a lead balloon.” Of course, they ended being the most influential rock band of the 70s.... Show More
It’s an oxy-moron. A “zeppelin” is another name for a blimp, or hot air balloon. It’s an oxy-moron because most likely, a lead balloon would not float.... Show More
They the band, thought their band would not fly. And it would crash and burn like the zeppelin in the I don’t know what year the zeppelin crashed and burned.... Show More
