What does LS, LT, and LTZ stand for and mean?

I am a college student interested in leasing a car and am researching what I need to know before making a decision. Specifically, I would like to understand the meaning of the terms LS, LT, and LTZ. Can you explain what these acronyms stand for and their significance in the context of car leasing? Additionally, is one of these options superior to the others in terms of cost and durability? Thank you for your help!

The letters themselves usually don’t mean anything.

Those that do mean something are usually in Italian or French.

Examples: GT=Gran Turismo and denotes a more powerful version

GTI=Gran Turismo Internazionale, a variation on GT

GL=Grand Luxe, a luxury model.

In actual practice, each manufacturer has its own letter designations. Those you list are used by General Motors and mean the following:

LS: a lightly gussied-up base model with things like a/c, bucket seats, and different wheels.

LT: Similar to an LS, but with a bit more of everything (ex. nicer sound system).

LTZ: A lot more standard equipment and a bigger motor not available in the other models.

Obviously an LS costs more than the base model, an LT cost more than an LS, and an LTZ costs the most. None of this has any impact on the cars durability. As for which is better, that’s up to you to decide. How much standard equipment do you want ? do you need a bigger motor ? every manufacturer has a web page on which you can select and build your own car with your own options and calculate the resulting payments. They also let you compare one model with another model. It sounds like you really should try this.

Chevy.

LS is the base trim. The version that comes with the least amount of features like no leather or power seats. No sunroof or CD changer, no HID lights and you would have the basic hubcaps insteade of nice rims.

LT would have some of those features that the LS do not have and larger rims with no caps.

LTZ would be the most expensive version with the most features.

Durability is the same. The higher the trim, the more expensive. But the higher trim will have a better resale value over time.

LS, LT, and LTZ are letters which designate the trim line of a Chevrolet. The letters by themselves mean nothing. Each designation comes from the factory with a different package of standard equipment and certain options are not available on certain trim lines. Just decide which options you must have or want and the trim level you want to buy will become obvious. It has nothing to do with durability, everything to do with cost. Use the link to view the equipment on a Malibu with each trim line. You can do exactly the same thing for an Impala or Cobalt.

The letters found on cars after their name refer to their model. Not all cars share the same lettering convention but they do follow the same principal.

Example, G6, G6 v6, G6 GT and G6 GTP/GXP.

Another example is the Cobalt comes in LS, 1LT, 2LT and SS

The LS, LT and LTZ can be found on the impalas.

So the lettering system can be different but the idea is always the same. they are designed to distinguish different features. In your question the LTZ is the top of the line model. usually it comes with more standard features such as a sunroof and upgraded sound system. The LTZ’s on the impala platform came with a larger 3.9L engine and dual exhaust. So your LS is a base model and the LT is kinda middle of the road. Durability really depends on the engine in the car and the drivetrain. however there is something to be said for the theory that more toys mean more things to go wrong. So keep that in mind. In many cases the cars are VERY similar. The more basic models often share most of the same components and it’s simply a few luxury items that make the difference.

LS = Luxury Sport , usually the base mode

LT = Luxury Touring , usually the mid-range model

LTZ = Luxury Touring with a Z (?) top trim level.

LS = Limited Slip. So when someone says they have an LS transmission it means they have a transmission with a limited slip differential.
