RE:

What does the Hindi word "soniye" mean in English?

It’s Punjabi, that Hindi films have been ripping off as slang. Seems a lot of Hindi-wale are confused about this nowadays!

The word is “suhNa” (informal spelling, “sohna”) = beautiful/handsome

The “h” is essential. It is spelled with “u”, but the “h” is a tonal letter in Punjabi, which causes the u to sound like “o”

The feminine form is suhNi (“sohni”).

The vocative forms, for addressing or calling, are:

suhNia (“sohnia”) = O handsome (boy)!

and

suhNie (“sohnie”) = O beautiful (girl)!

It is not needed to go PUNJAB(india). I cannot call you SONIYE. but my life-partner. In a happy mood or in singing this word is used. eg; Oh, Soniye–meaning golden like beloved or golden friends

In India from an ordinary mans point of view the most precious thing is Gold. In Hindi it is called Sona.

Therefore people when they address their lovable ones parents their child or a lover his companion address them as Sonia which means most lovable.
