What is an “E9” rank in the army? What is a ‘colonel’ ?

My father recently passed away, at age 96, and will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery alongside my mother, brother and sister, who were laid to rest in ANC many years ago. Dad retired from the army as a ‘full colonel.’I’ve read that if a military man’s rank is E9 or above then he can be buried with full military honors. Is the rank of ‘colonel’ an E9 rank or above? Is my father entitled to be buried with full military honors? Our family would really like that if it’s possible.

Colone is O-6 and YES, it is several ranks above an E-9. Not sure if an O-6 rans is entitled to “full” military honors but I suspect that it is. Yes he gets full military honors. Colonel is 1 step below Brigadier General.
