I was wondering what an interpromotional match is. I know that Kurt Angle (yes, I purposely wrote "Angle") faced Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 21, and that was an example of such a match. Could you explain the concept more thoroughly and provide additional examples if possible?

example : Shawn Michaels was from Smackdown at the time of that match while Kurt Angel (if you want to put it that way) came from Smackdown when that match was done

Inter-promotional would be between two different promotions. While they are different divisions, Smack Down and Raw are the same promotion, and for the most part, so is ECW. A match between someone from WWE and TNA would be inter-promotional.  A match between the old WCW/NWA brand and the old WWF would be inter-promotional.
