What would happen if the cell membrane became impermeable?

What would be the consequences if the cell membrane became completely impermeable to all substances? How would this affect the cell's ability to maintain homeostasis, exchange nutrients, and eliminate waste?

We would die a horrible, painful death

The cell membrane’s permeability allows for nutrients to enter the cell, and waste to leave it. If our cells became impermeable, either the pressure differential would cause them to rupture, or they’d die of starvation.
