So far everyone is right. This equation is balance when written like this:
CH4 + 2 O2 —> CO2 + 2 H2O
But when you get further on in chemistry and you’re asked to balance combustion equations like this they will often get more difficult and require larger coefficients.
Depending on where you are taking chemistry your instructor may let you use fractions to balance the equation so that you don’t have to use such big numbers.
