Can I mix Alka Seltzer Plus with tea?

I’ve been drinking tea to help with my cold, and I’m considering mixing in Alka Seltzer Plus. Is it safe to combine these two?

It won’t hurt you. I’d have thought it would taste foul though.

As for “Combining caffeine with Aspirin should be avoided is you can help it.”

What on earth do you think is in alka seltzer?

“Combining caffeine with Aspirin should be avoided if you can help it.”

So are you stating we should be avoiding alka seltzer? Which contains aspirin and, oh yes, caffeine. Unless you have evidence for your assertion I suggest you withdraw your comment as it’s potentially libelous against a world-wide brand

Wouldn’t recommend it while the tablets will dissolve in other liquids, the amount of fizz or time to full dissolution will change. Also, efficacy and safety have not been established when these products are dissolved in anything but water. Combining caffeine with Aspirin should be avoided if you can help it. All in all though it won’t really do you any harm.

And in response to Nitram: Some forms of Alka-Seltzer “Plus” contain added medication such as, Aspirin, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan, and Phenylephrine.

-The med levels are well balanced, as inspected by the FDA so I am making no negative remark as to the brand described. The cause for attention, not alarm, is the way an elevated amount of caffeine (supplied by certain kinds of tea) interacts with the medication (supplied by the AS Tabs). The combination of drugs, such as aspirin, are dosed in such a way as to allow the body to optimally benefit from their effects over a prescribed time frame. The addition of an external stimulant will accelerate the body’s normal rate of absorption into the blood stream, and directly disturb the benefit of the drug. Considering the purpose of an effervescent medium, like alka seltzer, is to already accelerate absorption, the introduction of another stimulant would not be recommended if you wish to receive the full benefit of this particular remedy.

Sure…Why not? As long as it is not carbonated and it flavors the alka enough that it’s easier to swallow, sure.

i would not. the ingredients in tea and the med may not work well together. you could also ask a pharmacist.
