I'm confused by some wikipedia entries. Help? Joel McCrea was a great actor from years ago. After watching some of his films this week, I looked him up online. Joel McCrea's wikipedia page says he had three sons with his long time wife, Frances Dee. Frances and Joel were happily married for 57 years. Their sons are: Jody McCrea (b. 1934-2009)David McCrea (b. 1935)Peter McCrea (b. 1955)No where on Joel's page does it mention he had a daughter. Then I read Jody McCrea's wikipedia page (son of Joel McCrea - Jody was also an actor). Jody's wikipedia page says Jody was: "The eldest of three brothers and a half sister, his surviving siblings are David McCrea, Peter McCrea and Mona Leigh McCrea."I'm baffled by the mention of a half sister to his sons. I can't find any evidence online about Joel having a daughter. From what I read, Joel was a devoted husband for 57 years. If it is his daughter, who was the mother, and what happened? Thanks!

McCrea had a daughter, Mona Leigh, with a woman named Velma Marie Roberts Turner. Mona Leigh currently lives in Eugene, Oregon, and acts in moves from time to time.

Joel McCrea and Velma Marie Roberts Turner did have a daughter, in 1951. Mona Leigh (stage name) is a vocalist, bass player, song writer, author, videographer, editor, recording artist and actor. In the early days of the 50's Mona was the 'worst kept secret in Hollywood' according to Jody McCrea. When Joel had passed away and his wife of 57 years Frances Dee was about to pass away in 2004 she told her third son, Peter, that he had a sister but the only part of the name she could remember was Leigh...and that she had no idea where to look for his sister. In 2005 when Velma's estranged husband passed away the photos and name information for Mona were found among his belongings. Mona looked for Peter online and found him. The two met for the first time in San Francisco on what would have been Joel's 101st birthday. The last time Mona saw Joel was around 1960 or 61. The Joel McCrea / Frances Dee marriage was indeed a very long and happy marriage that endured and triumphed over various challenges throughout the years and Joel died of complications of pneumonia on their wedding anniversary. Mona and Peter remain close; Mona and Jody were very close but only over the phone. They had plans to meet in Roswell, NM in May of 2009 but Jody passed from sudden cardiac death in April of that year. Mona and David McCrea have never met or spoken.
