Does “tito” mean uncle in Spanish?

In Filipino, "uncle" is translated as "tito," while in Spanish it is "tío." However, I've heard that some Spanish speakers also use "tito" or "titi." Can anyone clarify the use of these terms in Spanish?

Hi =D!

Well, in spanish tío is uncle and tía is aunt but there are people that called to their uncle ‘tito’ affectionately.

Also with Tía, there are people that called to their aunt ‘Tita’

😉 Regards and kisses!

No, in Spanish “uncle” is “tío”.

Maybe you’ve heard Tito as a name. If someone’s name is Roberto, they call him Robertito or Tito. (the last part of Robertito is Tito). Titi is a nick name.

A Tití is a kind of monkey, very small.

In Mexican Spanish tito is used for a boy who is named for his father.

Example:the name Pablo;Pablo Jr.would be Pablito,little Pablo,or Tito for short.

I have a cousin who is Rosendo Jr.;Rosendito.Tito for short.Tito is all we have ever called him.

“Tito” and “Tita” are Filipino corruptions of Spanish words (as “kumosta,” which means “how are you” is a corruption of “como esta”.)

Tio is Spanish, so you won’t hear “tito” from a Spanish-speaker.

(I hear “Tito” a lot from my Visayan nieces and nephews, though, so for what it’s worth, there’s my source.)
