Unfortunately you cannot view your account number online. You NEED to go to a local bank and get your number.

Also swiss is blowing it out of proportion a bit, though she is correct it could happen. The best defense from that is a good password, things like LettersNumbersLetters work. Example: pie360superpie.

There are many other ways to beef up a password, just search for guides on that.

I also suggest not writing them down anywhere, so make them easy for you to remember.

In Swiss’ defense… a hacker, if persistent enough, can get into ANY account but that takes A-LOT of time and A-LOT of effort.

Wait until you see the tax refund has cleared and is showing in your account, then go to the bank and close your account. Many banks charge a fee if you close an account within the first 6 months, so be prepared for that if it applies to your situation. It would have been disclosed in the terms and conditions you received when you opened the account. If it is a “business account” and not a personal account, the rules may be different. I’m only familiar with “deposit only” accounts when they are business accounts.

The single most stupid thing a person can do is putting their bank account number online.  Do not do online banking.  Despite what the banks tell you, it is not secure and people have had their accounts cleaned out.
