Forces on an Object?

A 75kg petty thief wants to escape from a thirdstory jail window. Unfortunately, a makeshift rope made of sheets tied together can only suppose a mass of 58kg. How might the thief use this rope to escape? Give quantitative answer. Thanks

the rope can only provide a tension of...F = m a = 58 x 10 = 580N But the theif weighs 750Ntherefore, somehow the theif must weigh less so that the rope can sipport him...750N - 580N = 170Nthe only way he can make himself weigh less is if he falls (accleerates downwards)a = F / m 170N of force will make a 75kg man accelerate at 2.26m/s^2so if somehow the theif slipped down the rope instead at 2.26m/s^2, then that would effectively take 170N of force off the rope. and the rope would only experience a tension (force) of 580N...
